Lo Mein
Lo Mein is a Chinese noodle dish made with soft egg noodles tossed in a savory sauce with vegetables and protein. Comforting, quick, and endlessly customizable.
Ingredients
Noodles
400 g lo mein noodles or egg noodles
Protein (optional)
300 g chicken, beef, shrimp, or tofu
Vegetables
- 1 cup cabbage, shredded
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 2 green onions, chopped
Sauce
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 tbsp water or stock
For Cooking
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Instructions
Cook noodles
- Boil noodles according to package instructions.
- Drain and set aside.
Stir fry protein
- Heat oil in wok or large pan.
- Cook protein until just done.
- Remove and set aside.
Stir fry vegetables
- In same pan, sauté garlic briefly.
- Add vegetables and stir-fry 2–3 minutes
Combine
- Return protein to pan.
- Add noodles and sauce.
- Toss well over high heat.
Serve
Serve hot, garnished with green onions.
Small Notes :
- Lo mein noodles are tossed, not fried.
- High heat keeps noodles from getting soggy.
- Adjust sauce to taste.
- Add chili oil for heat.
